FPNI understands itself as an international scientific networking organisation with a flat organisation. It is a legal body in form of a society registered in Linz, Austria.

Management is concentrated in the Board. The Chairman represents FPNI to the public and takes care of the homepage, the Secretary is responsible for the treasuring and administrates the members list.

Decision making follows the rules of the society's statutes.

The Board members should also represent the different continents.
